Let's get to know Susie, shall we?

Q: When did you develop a love for painting?
SK: I have loved painting and drawing since marking up the walls and desks of Hill House School! Exhilarating!

Q: What materials do you use in your work? Paints, canvas, paper, etc?
SK: Acrylic, watercolor, and gouache, on watercolor and canvas paper. I used to paint oil on linen, curious to try open acrylic as an alternative.

Q: From where do you draw your inspiration?
SK: EVERYWHERE. It’s overwhelming. I’m most inspired by humor, but keep that off the canvas.

Q: Playing with colors and textures excites us when designing jewelry. What excites you when painting?
SK: The initial research. I spend a lot of time obsessing on a subject. Totally unnecessary, but I love learning every detail and bit of history.

Q: Any business leaders or artists that inspire or influence you and your brand?
SK: Inslee, CJ Hendry, Betty Tompkins, Mita Corsini, list goes on!

Q: What can we look forward to seeing from your brand in the near future?
SK: Custom botanicals and frames for Shelley Johnstone Design. More jewels. Always commissions!
